Here are some red flags to look out for:

1. You are not growing together anymore

There is no growth in your relationship. When you think of your future, does it involve your partner? Or instead, are you planning a trip to Italy with friends to learn how to make pasta, instead of planning that trip with your partner in mind.

When you’re with someone who challenges you in all different ways, there’s always opportunity for growth and having a relationship that evolves.

It is important to ask yourself is this person holding me back from living the life I want?

2. Most of your interactions are not positive

The interactions are always toxic arguments. Filled with shaming and emotional abuse. There is a major lack of communication

Signs of bad communication in a relationship:

  1. Belittling and constant criticism of each other
  2. Giving the cold shoulder to each other
  3. Passive aggression
  4. Lack of compromise
  5. Fewer attempts to connect with each other
  6. Picking on each other

3. You find reasons to avoid your partner

When you get home from work and see your partner’s car outside the house, do you sit in the car and avoid going inside?

Do you find yourself wanting to hang out with your friends or family more than your partner?

This can be a sign that things have changed on your end in an big way.

4. Your friends or family urge you to end the relationship

If many of your friends or family members don’t like your partner and tell you to break up – they tell you that you better of without that person — this could a major red flag.

Those closest to you want the best for you, and may be able to see things clearly even when you can’t.

5. Your instincts are telling you to get out

If your stomach is always in a knot, it may be your gut instinct talking to you.

If your gut says you should go, and you’re not sure, check in with your close friends or loved ones, or with an expert like a therapist, who can help you weigh the pros and cons in order to make the most informed decision.
