Perhaps you saw this day coming. Maybe you never expected it.
Either way, your wife wants a divorce, now what do you do?
What Not to Do If Your Spouse Wants a Divorce:
Many people sabotage the opportunity by acting desperate, angry, nasty, or vengeful. These behaviours are the opposite of what you should be doing. These actions can make it a very difficult situation, harder:
- Don’t Try to Talk Your Wife Out of Divorce. She made up her mind. You can not force someone to be married to you that no longer wants to be. Respect her and yourself and pick up the pieces to begin to move on.
- Don’t let your emotions override you. Start thinking logically – start planning for your life after divorce
- Start planning for your new life. Get help. This can be from an emotional, mental, and physical perspective. If you look after your mind and yourself, you can begin to become the person you were before the divorce.
- If possible, try to mediate. Try not to get a contested divorce. Contested divorces are more expensive and time-consuming as well as stressful for the parties involved.
- Be careful about hiding assets. Do not hide assets or start diverting money. It might come back to bite you in court if she finds out
There is nothing to gain by anger.
If you are angry, sad or confused because your wife wants a divorce, take the time to gather your thoughts. Once you learn your options, you can make calm decisions.
It is not a coincidence that calm decisions are often smart ones.
