Taking Your Life Back

Legal Leaders

You have a right to be happy and fulfilled.

If you are in an abusive intimate relationship (be it verbally or physically) then you cannot be in the right mental or emotional space to grow and achieve your goals in life.

So what can you do?

1. The first step is talk to your partner about the way you feel. Discuss what can be done to improve the situation. And how their behavior is contributing.

2. If you partner shows no care to improve, then try a person whom the both of you respect to intervene (this is called informal mediation).

3. If that still does not work, then you must consider getting a divorce (if you are married).

Under this option, try getting a settlement agreement in place because that will mean your divorce will be finalised quickly and with minimal cost.

You can also get an interim protection order in place at your nearest Magistrate’s Court (especially if there is evidence of physical abuse).

Ultimately your happiness and fulfillment are important because if you are not happy and fulfilled then you cannot reach your full potential.

Stand up for yourself.
