Having anxiety can make a major impact in the workplace.

People may turn down a promotion or other opportunities like travel or public speaking.

Getting stressed out at work happens to everyone, and it’s perfectly normal. But stress that is persistent, irrational, and overwhelming and impairs daily functioning

Here are some tips to help to manage your anxiety:

Generally, when you have toxic bosses who create unrealistic work demands and the goal post keeps changing, it puts pressure and stress on you.

– Try and seek external help first. The reason why this is important is it gives you the courage to talk about how you’re feeling.

There’s nothing wrong with going to a professional and it also helps you to identify the source of your anxiety.

– The second one is:  do not find solace in your colleagues. They cannot help you and they might make the situation worse off for you.

The reason why you don’t want to talk to your colleagues about your situation is because that can lead to gossip in the workplace.

You know sometimes some environments have favoritism, there are bosses’ pets and that information might go to your manager or your boss or you’re superior and it might actually filter out to end up being even more negative for you. Therefore, it is best not to talk to any of your colleagues about it try and get external help first

– Once you feel confident enough you can file a grievance, if it is someone else that’s causing your anxiety at work, in other words, you can take formal steps against them to file the grievance.

You need to check the internal processes at your company, check for the disciplinary code check, speak to HR and get some feedback.

– Take wellness steps. Try and get enough rest and rest can come in the form of meditation, developing hobbies,  exercise, watching funny movies. In other words, try and improve your lifestyle.

Sometimes by improving making minor adjustments to your lifestyle, this can have a major positive effect in reducing the amount of anxiety in your life.

– Do not ignore your anxiety, do not ignore the way you feel and definitely do not suppress your anxiety.

Anxiety is a very real feeling and when you can identify with it then you are better placed to resolve the issue instead of turning to things like alcohol and drugs.

Anxiety is always present to some degree in your daily life, but it doesn’t have to interfere with doing good work and enjoying your profession. 

Remember, though anxiety is an unpleasant emotion, it’s also an opportunity for you to grow, personally and professionally.
